Herbert Kühn und die deutsche evangelische Gemeinde in Malmö von 1930-1946

The tenure of Herbert Kühn as the priest of the German Protestant Church of Malmö from 1930-1945

Author

  • Valentin Jeutner

Summary, in English

The text sheds light on the actions and on the role of the priest of the German Church in Malmö, Herbert Kühn (1898-1977), in the time from 1930-1946. The analysis proceeds in three steps. The first part shows how Kühn manages to provide a sustainable foundation for the young and insecure German parish and how he becomes the NSDAP's most important representative in Malmö. The second part traces how Kühn, having been repatriated involuntarily from Sweden to Germany in 1946, rewrites his pre-1945 history and how the leadership of the protestant church in Germany negotiates Kühn's case with the British occupying authorities. Finally, the third part presents a tentative evaluation of Kühn's time in Malmö.
