Discipline or punishment? : Sexual violence and harassment in administrative procedures at Lund University

Author

  • Ulrika Andersson

Summary, in English

A recent study from Lund University shows that more than 25 % of the female students have experienced sexual harassment or violence during their studies. Most of them stated they didn’t tell anyone about this, least of all anyone at university.. At the same time there seems to be a growing demand from students that university responds and takes action against sexual violence on campus. This could be interpreted as part of a general repressive trend. In this paper I analyze fifteen disciplinary cases involving sexual harassment and violence among students at Lund University, from the last twenty years. I study the decisions as well as the procedure, including the investigations and the communication towards the parties. My aim is to critically examine the administrative procedure in relation to the criminal justice process.
