Library of the Swedish Law Commissions
The Library of the Swedish Law Commissions is one of the Faculty of Law Library’s special collections. You can read more about the collection and the project to catalogue it here.
The special collection consists of approximately 6,700 volumes of Swedish and international legal literature that once belonged to the various Swedish Law Commissions.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, various committees worked on reforms of Swedish civil law, criminal law, and procedural law. For this work, a large amount of Swedish and foreign legal literature was acquired, and from 1902 this material formally belonged to the committee known as Lagberedningen (The Law Commission).
The collection was donated to the Faculty of Law, and a project is now underway to catalogue and make the books and other publications available. The project is funded by Thora Ohlssons stiftelser.
The cataloguing includes registering each book’s exlibris, stamps, date of acquisition, etc., if the information is available. This information can provide insight for researchers searching the catalogue remotely on what material was available to legislators during different periods.
You can find the material that have been added so far to the catalogue here: Collection.
In most cases, the books can be requested and read as reading room loans by contacting the library at jurbibl [at] jur [dot] lu [dot] se. New titles are continuously added to the catalogue.
