The Academic Appointments Board decided on 30 January 2026 to appoint Mariya Senyk as Associate Professor of Fiscal Law.

Mariya Senyk holds a doctoral degree in Business Law from Lund University (2018). Her doctoral thesis examines the principles governing the allocation of value added tax (VAT) in cross-border situations, analysed within the legal frameworks of the WTO, the OECD and the EU.

From 2019 to 2022, she worked at Lund University as a postdoctoral fellow in economic law on a research project on the digitalisation and taxation. Since 2022, Mariya has been a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law. Her research focuses on value added tax and other indirect taxation from both the EU and Swedish perspectives. As of October 2025, she is a member of the VAT Expert Group of the European Commission. She is also a member of Skattenytt’s Editorial Board.

Mariya has a special interest in interdisciplinary research methods and is part of LUTAX (Lund University Tax Research Center), an interdisciplinary research and knowledge network focusing on taxes and public finance.
