Transcription services

At the Faculty of Law, you as a researcher have access to two transcription services: one local service and one that you can use remotely.

The Faculty of Law’s Transcription Service

The Faculty of Law’s IT department offers a free transcription service. It consists of a local installation of Whisper AI, which allows you to easily transcribe audio files into a text document that is saved directly to your own USB flash drive. It takes approximately 15 minutes to transcribe one hour of recording. The transcription is carried out in a secure environment, and after each session the system is reset and all files are deleted from the local installation. Nothing from the process other than what is saved on your USB flash drive is retained. Some post-editing may be required.

If you wish to transcribe interviews or other recordings, you are welcome to contact IT at support [at] jur [dot] lu [dot] se and book an appointment. The audio files must be brought on a USB flash drive or other external hard drive.

Sunet Scribe

With the Sunet Scribe service, you as a researcher or student at Lund University can digitally transcribe research data in the form of audio and video files. Transcription in multiple languages is supported.

The service is approved for use with research data that contains sensitive personal data – the data is encrypted in all transfers and the information is not stored by Sunet after the transcription has been completed. As the requester, you are responsible for the content to be transcribed and for ensuring that it is stored securely after transcription.

To use the service, you must have a working Lucat ID.

To get started:

Go to https://scribe.sunet.se and click “Login with SSO”. Attempt to log in using your Lucat ID and FrejaID. You will receive the message “You must ask your administrator for access before you can login”.

This request is sent to the Research Data Office, which verifies that you are authorized to use the system and activates your user account as soon as possible. You will receive a confirmation email from them once your account has been activated.

Once you have been notified that your account is active, you can log in to the service via https://scribe.sunet.se. Login is done using SSO (Lucat ID) and FrejaID.

If you have other questions regarding transcription, handling and storage of audio files, or other research data, you can contact the Faculty of Law’s data stewards, Elin Thunell and Jon Eriksen.
