Master's programme in International Human Rights Law
As a student on our Master's programme you will be part of an international group of students, coming from all over the world. For more than a quarter of a century, the programme has been a collaborative venture by the Faculty of Law at Lund University and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI). This makes the education its provides unique; no other LL.M. programme in the world offers the joint resources of a prestigious law school and an implementation oriented human rights institution. The Master's programme offers the students a broad understanding of the complex system for the protection of human rights and the preconditions under which such rights function at an international, regional and national level. The programme explores a number of substantive areas of human rights law as well as the place of human rights in general public international law and in legal theory.
The advanced studies within this Mater's programme leads to a Master in International Human Rights Law. The programme is divided into four terms, each of them composed of courses of 30 credits in total. The full Master's programme represents two years of full time studies, equivalent to 120 credits.
The first term and the first period of the second term consists of mandatory Human Rights Law and International Law courses. During the second half of the second term, students can choose elective courses. During the first period of the third term, students will take a course in Humanitarian Law in addition to an elective course. The second period of the third term consists of a Procedural Law course equivalent to 15 credits. The fourth and final term i designated to the Master thesis of 30 credits.

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) is an independent academic actor for the promotion of human rights and humanitarian law by means of research, academic education and institutional development. The Institute was founded in Lund in 1984 and possesses a unique combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience in its fields of activity. Besides traditional academic activities, the Institute implements extensive capacity development programmes internationally for the promotion of human rights standards, democratic values and the rule of law. From 1990 until today, these programmes have had the goal to support key institutions and functions that can effectively influence the domestic implementation of human rights.
