Master's programme in European Business Law
The Master’s programme in European Business Law is the oldest programme covering European economic law in Scandinavia. The programme and the teaching team provides an in-depth understanding of both the practical and the theoretical aspects of European foundational law, including constitutional and free market principles. This solid foundation is expanded into business law within the European Union, exploring how the Internal Market operates, how commercial practice is affected by European law and practice and how the European market and commercial actors engage with markets and consumers in a global context.
The programme offers students the flexibility to choose between full time study over one or two years. The first year consists of mandatory courses. The second year consists of one term with elective courses and finally one term of master thesis.
- The one year leads to a degree of Master (One Year) of Laws in European Business Law. During the programme students will gain a strong knowledge in European economic law and EU law that impacts commerce in Europe.
- The two-year master’s affords students the opportunity to specialize their studies in a number of areas of economic law. Depending on what elective courses are offered, these areas could be for example European competition law, European tax law, European free movement law and European company and trade law.
Each study year is divided into two terms: the autumn term and the spring term. In each term 30 credits are obtained over a period of 20 weeks. Each term is again subdivided into two periods of 10 weeks within which 15 credits are obtained.
The first year of the Master's programme in European Business Law consists of mandatory courses equivalent to 45 credits. In the final period of the second term the students choose one elective course of 15 credits. Those students who wish to pursue the one-year programme will instead write their master thesis of 15 credits.
In the second year, the first term is dedicated to further specialization and the students choose elective courses equivalent to 30 credits. In the final term of the second year the students write their master thesis of 30 credits.

Student testimonial
I attended Lund University between 2014 and 2016, completing the two-year course. From the first day, the programme made it clear that the focus was on supporting the students in their studies with the aim of providing them a proverbial door to walk through. For me, this meant that aside from Lund providing me a strong background in EU law during the first half a year, it allowed me to specialize extensively in competition law. This was largely possible thanks to the dedicated teaching staff as well as the programme e.g., ensuring that all the guest lectures are representative of what is expected of one of the top universities in the world.
Furthermore, teaching was done in a way which ensured that the obtained knowledge could effectively be used in practise. To do so, the faculty invited CEO's and partners in law firms to explain what is expected of the students during their future carriers as either inhouse or at a law firm.

Student testimonial
Being accepted to Lund University has probably been one of the best things that happened to me so far. I can say without a doubt that studying there has been an amazing experience. I was accustomed to the very theoretical way of teaching of French universities, and I have discovered that courses mixing theory and practice suited me much better. And this is what the LL.M European Business Law programme offers: a perfect mix between legal theory and practical application. During my second year, I had the honour to be part of the team representing Lund University during the European Law Moot Court, an international moot competition whose final is held every year at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. Thanks to our participation in the Moot Court, I got the opportunity to do an internship at the Court.
The programme is delivered by researchers and practitioners of very high level who succeeded in transmitting me their enthusiasm for EU law. I greatly appreciated their accessibility and their dedication to the students.
As for the student life, there is no wonder why the university attracts so many brilliant minds: Lund offers the perfect balance between studies and social life, with its countless libraries and dozens of student nations. My only regret is that these two years have gone way too fast!
