Uncomfortable Conversation with Anna Lundberg
Uncomfortable Conversation is designed to create space for critical reflection beyond the polished narratives of academic life. In this session, Prof. Anna Lundberg will invite participants into a dialogue about the frictions and dilemmas that often remain unspoken in research and academic careers.
Drawing on her work in sociology of law, migration, and human rights, Prof. Lundberg will reflect on the complexities of doing engaged research—where questions of power, solidarity, and responsibility cannot be ignored. She will share experiences from her involvement in collaborative initiatives, highlighting how researchers navigate tensions between activism and scholarship, public engagement and academic rigor.
The discussion will explore themes such as the discomfort of confronting exclusion and inequality, the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration, and the ethical implications of producing knowledge that matters to vulnerable groups. Participants will be encouraged to consider how to embrace uncertainty, disagreement, and discomfort as productive elements of academic life.
Rather than providing ready-made answers, this “uncomfortable conversation” aims to open a space where early-career scholars can grapple with the messy realities of research and reflect on how to carry integrity, courage, and criticality into their own academic journeys
Lunch salad will be served for those registered.
