Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used in a clinical setting to reach diagnoses and to set up treatment plans. While literature has identified biases in these AI systems and suggested solutions to overcome them, this article holds that human involvement is needed to remove these biases. Based on psychological theories this paper examines how the individual values underlying the creation and the use of these AI systems may overcome biases and enhance fairness.

Anna Tovmasyan, Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Reading, where she researches factors that play a role in creating trustworthiness in healthcare technology and decision-making with a specific focus on transparent communication about AI bias. 

Netta Weinstein, Associate Professor at the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Science at the University of Reading. Dr Weinstein is also a Research Associate at the Oxford Internet Institute. Her main research focuses on the role of human motivation in shaping behaviour and well-being.
