The Delegation for Migration Studies (Delmi) presents two new policy briefs on the implementation of the EU Migration and Asylum Pact. The Pact is scheduled to be fully implemented in June 2026, marking the most comprehensive reform of the Common European Asylum System in over a decade. The reform aims to create more efficient and coordinated asylum processes, strengthen controls at the EU’s external borders, and clarify the division of responsibilities among member states.

In The Implementation of the Migration and Asylum Pact: Efficiency, Responsibility, and the Future of Protection in the EU, Eleni Karageorgiou analyzes how the implementation of the pact may affect access to protection within the EU.

In The Child Rights Perspective in the EU Migration and Asylum Pact, Rebecca Thorburn Stern analyzes what this new regulatory framework means for children’s rights—both at the EU level and in a Swedish context.

In May, the Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies (SIEPS) published an analysis by Jessica Almqvist and Rebecca Thorburn Stern, in which they examine the draft declaration from the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers regarding the European Court of Human Rights’ handling of migration issues.
